 Harwinton Paving provides not only  standard paving materials for driveway installations but also gravel,  stone, and asphalt reclaimed through the milling process. Using recycled  concrete, gravel stone, CR6, asphalt millings or other stone types can  be a low cost alternative to a hard surface for your driveway or parking  lot. These materials don’t perform as well as asphalt, but have similar  characteristics. 

 When cracks are present in a  driveway any asphalt surface water will enter the cracks and work its  way down to the base. Once the water has made its way to the base many  different problems will occur. When the base is wet it will cause the  asphalt to sink. Sometimes it is just a minor hole, but it will  eventually get larger and can cause people to fall and get hurt. The  base will also settle and leave areas where the water will collect and  cause puddles and freezing. These puddles and depressions can also be  fixed with our infrared heat repair but Infrared is a more expensive  option than crack filling.  Water entering through cracks also cause the  asphalt to continue to crack and turn into spider webbed cracking 

 Asphalt surfaces, including  driveways, parking lots and tennis courts, typically require replacing  because the sub-base of the asphalt has failed. Most of the sub-bases  that we have run into fail due to being wet or having a really sandy  base. If there is a water issue that requires drainage, it should be  addressed before the paving is done. It is a waste of money to do an  asphalt driveway without first resolving the drainage problem as high  water volumes will cause the asphalt to collapse or sink. Curtain drains  can be installed along the sides of the asphalt edges.  R.C.P.  (reinforced concrete pipe) drains or Trench drains can be installed in  the driveway to eliminate water problems.
